Solomon Gulch Hatchery - Structural Upgrades

Valdez, Alaska

Project Description

H. Watt & Scott bid and was awarded work for structural upgrades by the Valdez Fisheries Development Association, Inc, (VFDA) Solomon Gulch Hatchery to upgrade the hatchery building that holds pink salmon eggs and smolt. This work started after the pink salmon were released in the spring and had to be completed prior to the pink salmon return in early July. During Phase 1, H. Watt replaced all structural purlins and girts with hot dipped galvanized and replaced the siding of the building and roof with insulated metal panels. During the 2nd phase of the project, structural columns were removed and replalced with hot dipped galvanized columns. Hot dipped galvanized portal frames were added as well. This work was completed on time and on budget through design and construction weekly meetings, and tracking of materials to ensure there would be no delays in construction.
